This year thousands of Idaho children will go without the dental care that they need.
And every day, serious oral health problems will go undiagnosed until they become acute—when they will be more difficult and more expensive to treat. Children’s general health will be compromised and precious school hours will be lost.
In an effort to improve access to dental care for underserved children, the CFDC Miles of Smiles Mobile Dental Van Program was created. Through relationships with local dentists, dental hygienist, and the Boise School District, the Miles of Smiles Dental Van Program provides free, high-quality preventative services (comprehensive exams, digital x-rays, fluorides, varnishes, sealants, dental cleanings and oral hygiene instruction) and dental education to uninsured children whose families can’t afford dental care. Its services have been successful in reaching underserved youth by utilizing a dental unit on wheels that visits schools in the Boise School District.
